About Me

From Microsoft to Mobile Apps That Matter

I'm Daniel Berger, an iOS engineer with nearly a decade of experience building mobile products at scale. From Microsoft to high-growth startups like Branch Metrics, AppNexus, and JW Player, I've worked on SDKs and platforms used by millions. Now, as a Y Combinator graduate, I'm channeling that expertise into building apps that unlock AI for everyday problems.

The Journey

Microsoft

2021-2025

Mobile Software Engineer 2

At Microsoft, I spent four years modernizing and optimizing mobile SDKs. I completely rewrote a 10+ year old Objective-C project in Swift, making it more modular and efficient while boosting performance by 10%. I independently shipped features like Interstitial Video Ads and Rewarded Ads, created comprehensive test suites, and worked across Product, Documentation, and Services teams to maintain parity with Android products.

Branch Metrics

2020-2021

Senior Solutions Engineer

As a Senior Solutions Engineer at Branch, a leading mobile measurement provider, I worked with strategic and enterprise customers to integrate Branch's iOS, Android, and web SDKs. I led technical workshops with marketing, engineering, and product teams, performing audits and optimizing implementations for long-term success.

AppNexus/Xandr

2018-2020

Manager, Capability Specialty (Mobile SDK Products)

At AppNexus (acquired by AT&T to become Xandr), I served as the mobile capability expert bridging product, engineering, and services. I resolved complex issues, influenced product decisions, created documentation, and provided level-two support for the mobile SDK platform.

JW Player

2015-2018

iOS SDK Support Engineer

I started my mobile journey at JW Player, helping customers implement the iOS SDK in both Swift and Objective-C. I handled QA for product releases, created API documentation, and ensured SDK stability and accuracy.

Building Something Different

After years of building SDKs and platforms for other companies, I wanted to create products that directly solve problems people face. Through Y Combinator, I learned to identify real needs and ship solutions quickly.

Today, I run Pomona App Studio, where I build AI-powered iOS apps that make complex technology accessible. My 6 apps tackle specific challenges—from helping collectors instantly value cards to making book discovery delightful. Each app has reached thousands of users worldwide, proving that the right technology, applied to the right problem, can make a real difference.

What Drives Me

I believe AI shouldn't be complicated or intimidating. Whether it's recognizing a trading card, recommending a book, or finding a great restaurant, AI can make everyday tasks simpler and more delightful. My goal is to build apps that people actually use and love—not because they're impressed by the technology, but because the app just works.
